Working With Me

How Does Therapy Work?

I offer evidence-based, time-limited therapy. This means that after completing an assessment of your concerns and circumstances, I will transparently share with you how I may be able to help you using methods that have a compelling evidence base for alleviating concerns similar to yours.

In most cases, I should also be able to offer a fair prognosis of the duration of treatment. Typically, following an initial assessment session, we would commit to working together for four weekly sessions, which should enable us to build momentum in therapy and give you a good sense of whether working together is right for you. We would then agree further sessions depending on your progress and complexity of your concerns. At any stage, should working together not be the most appropriate course of action, I will aim to signpost you to suitable sources of help.

I will share new skills with you to practise between sessions, so having a means to take notes would be helpful.

Your key investment in the process of getting better will be in implementing the concepts and skills addressed in our sessions, which is why I understand therapy as being a “talking and doing” exercise. While this requires some effort and the willingness to face discomfort, therapy is framed with compassion and can often yield substantial rewards in a matter of weeks.

“Therapy is teamwork. Working together will involve both of us actively participating in sessions, often using experiential methods”.

CBT and ACT have a robust evidence base for anxiety and mood disorders as well as trauma-related concerns. Personally, I have experience in helping clients of all ages sixteen and up with a range of concerns, including:

Generalised anxiety, work stress/burnout, trauma, social anxiety, various phobias, OCD, driving/passenger anxiety, depression/low mood, chronic health conditions, self-esteem/confidence issues, relationship concerns, going through various life transitions and bereavement.

I am open and inclusive in my practise, having had the privilege of working with and learning from a wide diversity of clients. I enjoy working interculturally and look forward to collaborating with you regardless of faith, sexual orientation or disability.

How I Work

I work in an evidence-based way, USING Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), also drawing on other proven cognitive behavioural therapy methods. In short, the aims of ACT are to equip you to become increasingly psychologically flexible, enabling you to be fully present in your life and to act on what really matters to you. This can lead to life becoming increasingly fulfilling, even in the presence of demanding circumstances.

I also make use of my psychodynamic training to formulate a nuanced longitudinal understanding of past experiences on your difficulties and to foster appropriate reflection of the impact of the past on the here and now, in the context of a therapy which remains oriented towards reaching your goals.

Where can we meet?

I offer face-to-face sessions from my clinic in Solihull as well as online sessions using Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
